The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Thursday said that the government was releasing all the outstanding bills of media houses in order to enable them to pay wages and outstanding dues of the employees.
Meeting of the Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting was held in Committee Room of the PEMRA, here on Thursday.
Mian Javed Latif, chairman presided over the meeting.
The committee expressed grave concern over the disaster of Covid-19, which has paralyzed the whole world and stressed upon the need for adoption of identical precautionary measures throughout the country in consultation with all the provinces to avoid further spread of coronavirus as there was huge resentment among the masses for adoption of different policies. The committee directed that ministry may give special incentives to media workers and provide them safety kits at the earliest, so they could work more effectively for the welfare of the country.
Earlier, Dr Awan, SAPM briefly apprised the committee about the measures adopted by them to prevent the nation from coronavirus and problems faced by them in this regard.
While responding to a question to safeguard the interests of media workers, she replied that government had decided to release the amount to media houses with the condition that they would immediately clear all the outstanding dues of media workers.
