Institution of Engineers Pakistan announced that 200,000 engineers will be on the roads against the controversial proposed Infrastructure Development Board Bill 2020 recently announced by Prime Minster Imran Khan.
Secretary General IEP Pakistan Engineer Amir Zamir Khan announced this in a press conference the other day along with chairman Lahore center engineer Masood Ali Khan. He said that after the passage of the proposed infrastructure development bill regulatory bodies like Pakistan Engineering Council will be dysfunctional. He was of the view that PEC is a constitutional body without which it is illegal to form a board.
He alleged that government is bringing the bill only to give benefits to those contractors who had association with them. He also said that there are 80,000 contractors in Pakistan adding that legislation cannot be made on the opinion of the organization representing only 253 contractors.
He also alleged that some construction companies get membership from PEC on the basis of fake certificates. He also said that Contractors Association of Pakistan is not portraying the real picture of construction industry before the government.
He was of the view that after the eighteenth amendment infrastructure development comes under the domain of provinces. He said that government has also included bureaucrats as board members of the proposed board.
Zamir said that Prime Minister Imran Khan does not know that training under the Washington Accord comes under the domain of Institution of Engineers. He also said that in the presence of all the institutes there is no need of infrastructure development board for construction industry.
He said that 200,000 engineers will be on the roads if the government passed the controversial Infrastructure Development Board Bill 2020. He said that government is forming the board on the advice of senior vice President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Arshad Dad.
He said that construction industry plays a key role in Pakistan's development. He also said giving tax incentives to the industry is a good move of the government.
