LAHORE: Former president and All Pakistan Muslim League Chief Pervez Musharraf said on Sunday that minimum deterrence was must for the defence of the country.

In a telephonic address to ex-Servicemen Association Lahore Chapter, he said that it was a wrong impression that a big chunk of budget of the country was being spent on defence. He said that outlay of the last year's federal budget was Rs 3770 billion, out of which Rs 570 billion was earmarked for defence spendings, showing 16 percent of the total volume.

He said that Pakistan was a nuclear state and no one could cast an evil eye on its sovereignty.

He said that Pakistan was passing through a critical juncture and it was need of the hour that all political parties should demonstrate maturity to steer the country out of turmoil.
