Power Division on Wednesday withdrew additional charge of Managing Director, National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), from Zafar Abbas, a Joint Secretary in the Ministry.
According to an office order, Dr Khawaja Riffat Hussain, GM, NTDC, has been assigned to look after the work of MD, NTDC purely on temporary basis as a stop gap arrangement with immediate effect and until further orders.
The Power Division is trying to recruit a full-time Managing Director of an important company but the hiring process was scrapped a couple of times and on social media a campaign was launched that the acting MD Zafar Abbas does not seek the appointment of permanent MD.
Insiders say that most of the positions in entities falling under the administrative control of Power Division are given on ad-hoc basis so that top bosses of those organisations must follow the Ministry without any argument.
The Power Division has been under severe criticism from the federal cabinet and Prime Minister Imran Khan for not running its affairs properly.
A couple of days ago Secretary to Prime Minister wrote a letter to all the Ministries/Divisions directing them to share details of appointments made without approval of the Cabinet as Supreme Court in Mustafa Impex case in 2016 had held that the federal government is federal cabinet.
