51 drug addicts found dead during lockdown in Lahore
As many as 51 drug addicts have been found dead during the lockdown amid coronavirus.
The dead bodies of these addicts have been found from different areas of the city and overdose of drugs, shortage of food and water are stated to be reasons of their deaths. Among them, 30 are less than 40 years of age while rest of them are above 40 years, Syed Zulfiqar Hussain, Consultant Anti-Drugs/Narcotics Campaign and Prevention Expert claimed this while talking to media about report on coronavirus hit substance use disorders (SUDs) prepared by the Drug Advisory Training Hub (DATH) & YOCFAN.
Hussain mentioned that a large number of homeless young people are using hard and soft drugs on footpaths, gardens and different major roads and lockdown exposed them to coronavirus. There are 120 clusters and pockets where people are using drugs and inject the heroin mixed with water in the city of Lahore without any fear, he added.
Syed Zulfiqar Hussain said the areas where dead bodies of unknown homeless drug addicts are being found include Data Darbar, Bhatti Gate, Lohari Gate, Lytton Road, Qila Gujar Singh, Gowalmandi, Mustafabad, Ghari Shahu, Tibbi City, Ravi Road, Rang Mehal etc.
