The Lahore High Court on Tuesday directed the counsel of a petitioner Muhammad Hassan to produce computerized birth certificate of a Sikh woman by May 22 who married to the petitioner.
The petitioner sought custody of his wife Jagjeet Kaur who after marriage was given Muslim name Ayesha living in Darul Aman under court orders. Kaur of Nankana Sahib previously had made a statement before the court that she married to the petitioner of her free will, after converting to Islam, and did not want to go back to her family.
However, her brother Manmohan Singh had claimed that his sister was not major to get married. He said Hassaan abducted his sister.
Earlier, the petitioner's counsel told the court that the petitioner and his wife were 19-year-old. He said the computerized identity cards of both were available on the record.
However, the judge directed the counsel to submit birth certificate of the woman to determine her age. Hearing was adjourned till May 22.
The petitioner contended that his wife wanted to live with him. He said the family of his wife continued to extend life threats to him even after Governor Punjab finalized reconciliation between them.
A report submitted a by medical superintendent of Mayo Hospital also said the age of the girl was above 18 years.
