Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Tuesday staged a stationary protest in the city to support traders' demand for the businesses resumption during the lockdown.

Addressing the protesters at 5-Star Chowrangi, JI Karachi chapter's chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman asked the Sindh government to ease the lockdown restrictions for traders in the province.

Expressing solidarity with the trader community, Naeem said the Sindh government is non-serious to address the businesses closure, which has severe implications on the economy and employment.

"The temperament of traders has now saturated and the government should stop delaying tactics as this will result in riots," he warned, saying that the shopkeepers have already assured the government of following Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) as mosques are also opened on such conditions.

Traders at all markets and centers will stage protest demonstration today. Similarly, as a future line of action, the JI is holding a traders' convention at Idara Noor-e-Haq on Thursday to discuss the issue.

Meena Bazaar women shopkeepers also took part in the protest and demanded the government to end the businesses closures.

Later, Hafiz Naeem told the journalists that the Sindh government does not honour pledges made to traders during the last meetings. "Daily wage workers and traders are ready to follow the SOPs," he added.
