Pakistan Stock Exchange Thursday closed on a negative note due to selling by local and foreign investors.

BRIndex100 lost 58.18 points or 1.67 percent to close at 3,417.28 points. BRIndex100 touched intraday high of 3,481.05 and intraday low of 3,411.56 points. Volumes stood at 150.808 million shares.

BRIndex30 decreased by 466.74 points or 2.57 percent to close at 17,690.89 points with a turnover of 112.069 million shares.

The KSE-100 Index declined by 424.02 points or 1.26 percent to close at 33,304.16 points. Trading activity remained low as volumes on the ready counter decreased to 176.025 million shares as compared to 208.973 million shares traded on Wednesday.

Foreign investors also remained on selling side and withdrew $3.9 million from the local capital market. Total market capitalization declined by Rs 79 billion to stand at Rs 6.296 trillion. Out of total 331 active scrips, 243 closed in negative and only 75 in positive while the value of 13 stocks remained unchanged.

Hascol Petroleum was the volume leader with 16.085 million shares however lost Rs 0.76 to close at Rs 14.90 followed by Maple Leaf that closed at Rs 25.78, down Rs 0.54 with 12.559 million shares. Rafhan Maize and Sapphire Textile were the top gainers increasing by Rs 95.00 and Rs 64.00 respectively to close at Rs 6995.00 and Rs 929.00 while Unilever Foods and Nestle Pakistan were the top losers declining by Rs 785.00 and Rs 77.61 respectively to close at Rs 10,110.00 and Rs 5837.50.

BR Automobile Assembler Index lost 8.17 points or 0.15 percent to close at 5,533.78 points with total turnover of 3.398 million shares.

BR Cement Index decreased by 76.16 points or 1.85 percent to close at 4,050.56 points with 41.794 million shares.

BR Commercial Banks Index fell by 26.74 points or 0.4 percent to close at 6,695.61 points with 19.102 million shares.

BR Power Generation and Distribution Index declined by 94.07 points or 2.09 percent to close at 4,407.30 points with 10.240 million shares.

BR Oil and Gas Index plunged by 92.96 points or 2.61 percent to close at 3,468.60 points with 26.024 million shares.

BR Tech. & Comm. Index closed at 946.34 points, down 11.19 points or 1.17 percent with 13.870 million shares.

Maaz Mulla at JS Global Capital said that the equities closed negative as the KSE-100 Index ended the session at a level of 33,304, shedding 424 points (down 1.3 percent) from its previous close.

Major decliners of the day were OGDC (down 3.2 percent), PPL (down 3.4 percent), HUBC (down 2.5 percent), LUCK (down 2.5 percent), BAHL (down 3.0 percent) and POL (down 2.7 percent).

From the banking space investor's interest was witnessed in HBL (up 1.5 percent), UBL (up 1.1 percent) and BAFL (up 0.2 percent) which closed higher than their previous day close.
