A CSR activist for eradication of thalassemia, Ateeq-ur-Rehman, has said that Thalassemia Day demands that the government while fighting against Covid-19 should not ignore blood disorders and also take keen interest in eradication of thalassemia from the country.
It's high time provincial governments took a step forward for thalassemia legislation through their respective assemblies.
"Thalassemia Day reminds us to reaffirm our commitment with the nation to make our homeland thalassemia free," said Ateeq-ur-Rehman.
He said that in 2019 there was a massive outbreak of the thalassemic syndrome. Also, 2020 has seen a significant jump in the numbers.
Lack of awareness about thalassemia was increasing the risk of this disease in the middle and lower income group of families.
He noted that in a recent survey, it was found that 98 percent ignore the thalassemic test before marriage. He warned that this negligence was massively damaging.
