Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani on Friday summoned Senate session on May 12 after the opposition political parties submitted a requisition, seeking a session of the house to discuss the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
A notification issued here by the Senate Secretariat said the session of the house would be held on May 12 at 11am.
The chairman Senate also presided over a Senate House Business Advisory Committee session, in which it was decided that less staff would be present on the day of the session.
Opposition leader in the Senate Raja Zafarul Haq said that due to ongoing coronavirus issue, it was not mandatory that all members attend the session at the same time.
Sanjrani said the session was scheduled at a time, when the country was battling the pandemic, adding that adequate measures had been taken for the meeting of the lawmakers.
He said the measures based on standard operating procedures (SOPs) had been put in place inside the Senate hall.
Sanjrani said the session would be of not more than two hours, spanning not more than a week and it would be ensured that there was no gathering of lawmakers and media persons anywhere at the premises or the hall.
The Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Senator Shibli Faraz, Mushahidullah Khan, Deputy Chairman Senate Salim Mnadviwala, Sherry Rehman, and others attended the session.
