Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) on Tuesday passed a resolution to condemn the mayhem of May 12, 2007 and demanded to fix the responsibility as who masterminded the carnage.
The resolution was passed in the meeting of the Managing Committee of the SHCBA to condemn the mayhem of 12h May, 2007. Zia ul Haq Makhdoom, President of the SHCBA presided over the meeting, which unanimously adopted resolution.
Resolution stated that thirteen years have passed but no proper investigation / inquiry has been made into such grave and disturbing events.
The SHCBA demanded fair and transparent inquiry/investigation and
probe into the above referred mayhem, so that the culprits are identified and the responsibility is fixed as to who master minded this carnage and persons responsible for this act should be brought to task.
The SHCBA recalled the systematic use of violence and lawlessness to create chaos and disorder across the city of Karachi and to terrorize the legal fraternity on 12h May, 2007.
It stated that 12th May, 2007 will always be remembered as a black day for Karachi in general and for lawyers of Karachi in particular, as violence and lawlessness was used to prevent the lawyers and the honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan from attending the 50 anniversary of the SHCBA. City roads were blocked, vehicles were burnt and hundreds of people were injured and about 45 people were killed.
The legal fraternity is reminded that on that day the High Court of Sindh was under virtual siege by armed persons. Lawyers attempting to enter the court were beaten and roughed up. The armed persons didn't even spare judges of the High Court.
The criminals were allowed to move freely all over the city. All this was done in connivance with the then government, resolution stated and added that armed men attacked lawyers at City Courts and Malir District Court.
