The appointment of Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh to head the 10th National Finance Commission (NFC) is unconstitutional.
This was stated by Professor Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, a former member of NFC from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, told Business Recorder here on Wednesday.
He said that an advisor can not chair NFC meetings. It is unconstitutional and challengeable in the court, he added. Replying to a question, Khan said that after consulting his party - Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) - he would challenge it in court.
Advisor to Punjab government Dr. Salman Shah said the matter is not clear to him and he can not comment on it.
The lawyers' wing of PML-N is also planning to approach the apex court against the federal government's notification authorizing Advisor to PM on Finance and Revenue to head the 10th NFC.
This was confirmed by Advocate Jehangir Jadoon, office-bearer of PML-N lawyers' wing of Rawalpindi-Islamabad.
