Matric, Intermediate: Sindh reveals grading formula for cancelled board exams
A meeting of provincial education ministers of all the provinces was held in Lahore on Thursday in which important decisions were taken regarding promotion criteria of IX, X, XI and XII students.
It may be noted that it was already decided in the meeting of National Coordination Committee chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan and was attended by chief ministers of all the provinces that there should be no exams for classes 9 to 12. Today's meeting was held to discuss the promotion criteria and to discuss the questions arising after the cancellation of exams.
In the meeting, following decisions were taken which includes all students of 9th and 11th will be promoted to grade 10 and 12 respectively. This will allow 100 percent of regular and private students of grade 9 and 11 to be promoted to next level.
In the second category students promoted to grade 10 and 12 will not take a composite exam in 2021. Thus they will not give 9th and 11th standard exam but only 10th and 12th standard. The grade 9 and 11 scores will be calculated based on their grade 10 and 12 performance in 2021.
In the third category, grade 10 and 12 students, who had passed all subjects required in grade 9 and 11 standard, will pass grade 10 and 12 exams based on their grade 9 and 11 performance. This will cater to a vast majority of the students. All these students will get an additional 3 percent added to their total based of the previous exam.
In the fourth category, the remaining students appearing in grade 10 and 12 examinations who have failed up to 40 percent of the grade 9 and 11 subjects will be awarded passing marks.
In category 5, a special examination will be held between Sep and Nov for the following categories which includes those not satisfied with their grade 11 results and wanted to improve by taking grade 12 exams. Those who were taking composite exam and had no grade 11 result to rely on, those wanting to appear in additional subjects and those who failed in more than 40 percent of the subjects in grade 9 and 11. The exam fees of these students will be adjusted in the special exams.
Regarding transcripts and certificates, it was decided in the meeting that scores of individual subjects for part II (both theory and practical) will not be mentioned in the transcripts. Only an aggregate score out of 1100 and an over all grade based on the aggregate score will be awarded to the students for the qualifications.
The Boards should mention in the transcript and in the certificate that the marks awarded for part II is the best prediction of the performance and has been awarded based on the formula and guidelines approved by the government and recognised by IBCC.
Grade 10 and 12 students who may wish to sit in the special examinations for any reasons may inform their respective boards by July 1. These students will be awarded result transcripts or certificates after the special examinations.
