The UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency has appointed Noriko Yoshida as its new representative in Pakistan. "Ms Yoshida recently arrived to take up her responsibilities," said Qaiser Khan Afridi, the UNHCR spokesperson for Pakistan.
Prior taking up her assignment in Pakistan, Yoshida has served as the UNHCR representative in Sudan. Her career with the UNHCR spans nearly 30 years, with extensive leadership experience in a range of roles at the UNHCR's Headquarters and in the field, spokesperson added.
She succeeds Ruvendrini Menikdiwela - who has become the Director of UNHCR's Office in New York. "I'm delighted to take up my new role as UNHCR Representative in Pakistan," Yoshida was quoted as having said on her arrival in the country to assume her responsibilities.
