There is little or no clarity about government's strategy in relation to lockdowns. Small shopkeepers and vendors have been allowed to open up their businesses as early as 6am in the morning. Such businesspeople, however, do not open their shops or premises for customers before 9am because they hardly find any customer before 9am as most of those who are fasting go to sleep after Fajr prayers. The question is: what is the wisdom behind this so-called relief to shopkeepers and vendors. Why doesn't the government change the timings from 6am-5pm to 9am-8pm? Not only will it facilitate shopkeepers and vendors, it will also enable people to continue shopping nearly one hour after Iftaar. People usually do not crowd markets or shops in big numbers during this hour of Ramazan. I am sure the Sindh government, which has been playing a highly valuable role in the fight against coronavirus spread, will look into my suggestion and change business hours. After all, we have to live with the coronavirus specter for many more months if not years.
