Mike Pompeo backtracks from claims that coronavirus originated in Wuhan lab
- We know it began in Wuhan, but we don’t know from where or from whom, and those are important things,” he said.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has backtracked from his claims that the coronavirus pandemic may have originated at a lab in Wuhan, China.
US President Donald Trump and the secretary have been supporting a theory that the virus has originated from a lab in Wuhan. At one point, Pompeo also claimed that there was 'enormous evidence' regarding the virus' origination. “I can tell you that there is a significant amount of evidence that this came from that laboratory in Wuhan," he told ABC's 'This Week'.
However, in a recent interview with news outlet Breitbart, Pompeo backtracked from his claims and said, "We know it began in Wuhan, but we don’t know from where or from whom, and those are important things.”
He further said that the US has asked teams to assist China in identifying where the virus originated multiple times, international media reported.
