Pakistan summoned senior Indian diplomat on Monday and lodged with him a strong protest over the ceasefire violations by the Indian troops along the Line of Control (LoC) the other day that resulted in serious injuries to an innocent civilian.

According to Foreign Office spokesperson Aisha Farooqui, the senior Indian diplomat was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to register Pakistan's strong protest over the Indian forces ceasefire violations in Khuiratta Sector on May 17, 2020.

Due to indiscriminate and unprovoked firing by the Indian occupation forces, she said that a 37-year-old Mohammad Shafi, son of Khushi Mohammad, and resident of Jijot village, sustained serious injuries.

She said Indian occupation forces along the LoC and the Working Boundary (WB) had continuously been targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire, heavy-caliber mortars and automatic weapons.

In 2020, India had so far committed 1,081 ceasefire violations, she added.

Condemning the deplorable targeting of innocent civilians by the Indian occupation forces, the spokesperson added it was underscored that such senseless acts were in clear violation of the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding, and are also against all established humanitarian norms and professional military conduct.

These egregious violations of international law reflect consistent Indian attempts to escalate the situation along the LoC and are a threat to regional peace and security," she said, adding Indian occupation forces display complete disregard for human rights by repeated shelling and firing resulting in a large number of civilian Shahadats and injuries.

She said Indian side was told that by raising tensions along the LoC and the WB, India could not divert attention from the grave human rights situation in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K).

Farooqui said the Indian side was called upon to respect the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding; investigate this and other such incidents of deliberate ceasefire violations and maintain peace along the LoC and the WB.

The spokesperson added the Indian side was also urged to allow the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to play its mandated role as per the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
