KARACHI: David Beckham has confirmed that he will be part of Friday’s opening ceremony of London 2012 Olympic Games.
The 37-year former England football captain was quoted by media saying he has been granted an unspecified role in Friday’s mega event at Olympic stadium.
“I'm excited to be part of such a huge occasion for our country,” said the football star.
“It is some kind of role in the opening ceremony which I am honored to be involved in because obviously I was involved in the start process with this seven years ago,” he said.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder however ruled out any prospects of him lighting the Olympic flame saying the honor should be given to an established Olympian.
The identity of the person who will actually light the flame is still under tight wraps.
Beckham, who now plays for ‘Los Angeles Galaxy’ in ‘Major League Soccer’, said he would travel back and forth between United States and London during the games.
“I'll be going back and forward but I'll definitely be trying to get to a few events,” he concluded.
