KARACHI: Malaysian shooter Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi, who is in her last trimester, will compete in 10m rifle event.
According to media sources, the 47th-ranked shooter of the world Taibi has made a trip to London Olympics to compete in 10M rifle event, just a month before she is due to deliver a baby girl.
Sources added that Taibi qualified for the Games at the “Asian Shooting Championships” in January, days after finding out she was expecting.
Doctors allowed her to compete in Olympics by saying that she is fine to compete, but they don’t want her flying after 35 weeks.
Speaking to media Taibi said, "I will talk to the baby before I compete, [I'll say] no kicking, stay calm for one hour and 15 minutes only please."
"My husband said grab it as this is a rare chance which may not come again. Also, I am the mother. I know what I can do. I am a stubborn person," she added.
Taibi has also qualified for 50m rifle competition but cannot compete because of her pregnancy because this event requires athletes to lie on their stomachs.
