ISLAMABAD: Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar has contradicted a report appearing in a section of the media Friday titled "Zardari chairs meeting on caretaker setup", terming it as speculative and based on conjectures that have no basis in reality.
In a statement he said that the meeting of the President with Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Pervez Ilahi and former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain Thursday night, contrary to the media report, focused on the energy situation in the country and the ways and means envisaged to address it.
He said that the meeting was part of the consultative process on current issues and reading more into it was not correct.
He also contradicted the report that Chief of Army Staff was also present during the Thursday meeting.
The spokesperson further said that the Government has already made it clear that the elections would be held on time in accordance with the law and the constitution.
Media reports suggesting that elections and caretakers were planned to be set up anytime before the constitutionally required timeline were not based on facts and did not reflect current policy and thinking, he said.
