TOKYO: Japan Atomic Power Company said on Tuesday that the sole 1,100 megawatt unit its Tokai Daini nuclear plant, located on the northeast coast of Japan, had safely cooled down earlier in the day.
The reactor automatically shut down shortly after a devastating earthquake and tsunami on Friday and was expected to be safely cooled down by Tuesday.
Tokyo Electric Power Company has a major stake in the firm, Japan's oldest nuclear power company.
