KARACHI: Pakistani students succeeded to achieve the title of Karl Popper Debating Champions by beating the students from South Korea. The debating event was held in Mexico.
According to media sources, team Pakistan won the final of Karl Popper international debate competition which is one of the largest high school tournaments in the world.
Sources added that the three 15-year-old Pakistani students, Zainab Hameed from “The Karachi Grammer School” in Karachi, Azeem Liaquat from “Salamat International Campus for Advanced Studies” in Lahore and Ahmed Shujaan from the “Aitchison College” stood at first, second and fifth position respectively among more than 200 international participants.
The topic for the tournament was “Guantanamo Bay prison should be closed down immediately”. Team Pakistan was in favor of this topic and Korea had to prove that the motion should not be adopted.
It was the 18th edition of the International Debate Education Association (IDEA) Youth Forum and forty five international teams participated in the competition.
