KARACHI: Hamid Sourian, the pride of Iran is a passionate wrestler who blessed Iran with the first gold medal in the history of Olympics.
Sourian, the world champion opted wrestling as his career because of his high enthusiasm and interest in it. His passion forces him to follow Naser Nourbakhsh as his coach, who has pocketed five gold medals in world championships.
The Iranian born wrestler, who is famous for his courage, strength and muscular power, started his career with Junior World Championships and then continued with his success in Senior World Championship.
By keeping his pace high, the Herculean man achieved victory in most of the events, thus generating a hope of winning an Olympic medal for Iran.
Finally, due to the determination and efforts shown by him, he was selected as a well-built wrestler by the committee for Olympics.
Sourian was a strong contender of Olympic gold in 2008, but due to his unfortunate, he was unable to do so, but later in London Olympics 2012, he proved the world that he is best.
The 26-year-old Iranian athlete won his country's first ever gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling by defeating Azerbaijan's Rovshan Bayramov in the 55kg final.
According to Sourian, “We are in trainings to get good results in London Games. Our coaching giving us good things in terms of weak points and has helped us a lot to reach the best level.”
Iran is proud of Sourian who is aiming to move ahead to achieve more success. His enthusiasm to fight, the strength that he has shown in Olympics and the way he maintained his strategies throughout games has left a magnificent impact on the mind of people.
