KARACHI: Pakistani Cricketer-turned-Umpire Asad Rauf, who is also in the International Cricket Corporation’s elite panel, has been accused of sexually exploiting Indian model-starlet Leena Kapoor. However, he admitted that pictures with her are real, but denied having any relationship with her.
The 21-year-old model has filed a written complaint with Deputy Commissioner of police Pratap Dighavkar. Kapoor complained to police on Monday that Rauf, whom she met in Sri Lanka six months ago and exchanged phone numbers with, had gone back on his promise to marry her but has now backed off. She says “When I tried calling him a few days ago, there was no response,” she says, adding that last week, Rauf called her to say that he did not know who she was and refused to have any more interaction.
Model also claims that Rauf had also offered to buy her a home. “He also offered to buy me a flat in Mumbai. But I never wanted his money. I have enough for myself and am busy with my work,” she adds.
He had also introduced her to many people in Delhi “as his wife”, Kapoor claimed.
Rauf has stood in 44 Tests, 95 ODIs and 17 T20 matches and is considered among the best in the world. Prior to umpiring, Rauf was also a first-class cricketer in Pakistan.
Rauf had officiated in two Tests between Sri Lanka and England in Colombo and Galle between March 26 and April 7. The former first-class cricketer has been on the elite panel for eight years. He said he was prepared to face an inquiry over Kapoor’s allegation.
Rauf, denying the allegations, told media that the model Leena Kapoor had taken pictures with him by posing as a fan.
Kapoor forced him into recommending her for the reality TV show “Bigg Boss” as he has good relations with people in Bollywood, Rauf told a News channel.
“But the show's organizers said that they do not accept entries via recommendations or references, so I ended contact with her,” he said.
“All I can say at the moment is that there is no truth in these allegations. I cannot make such relations at the ripe old age of 56,” Rauf said.
