pak un 400NEW YORK: President Asif Ali Zardari, who arrived here Sunday evening, will highlight the challenges being faced by the international community to promote peace and security at global level and present Pakistan's point of view to promote religious harmony when he will address the 67th United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) session Tuesday.

 

"President Zardari will present Pakistan's efforts and measures taken by Pakistan government for ensuring peace and security at the regional and international level," said Ambassador Masood Khan, while briefing the media persons here on Sunday night regarding the salient features of President's Zardari's address to the General Assembly session.

 

Ambassador Masood Khan, who especially flew into New York for the session of General Assembly said Pakistan is very important and key player in maintaining peace and security in the region and its sacrifices had been acknowledged by the international community.

 

Responding to a question, he said, Pakistan had always supported "Afghan owned" and Afghan-led reconciliation process and would continue to do so in future to ensure peace and security in the region. He said due to neighbouring countries, peace in Afghanistan will have direct impact on Pakistan.

 

Ambassador Masood said Pakistan is a member of the Security Council of the United Nations, therefore, it has great concern about peace and security in the region and in the world.

 

He said President Zardari will meet foreign ministers of China and United States besides holding an important trilateral meeting with leaders of Afghanistan and United Kingdom for finding a permanent solution to the present Afghan crisis.

 

Replying to a question, Ambassador Masood said, although US is an integral part with Pakistan for resolving the Afghan crisis, any consultation with other partners always helpful in resolving the issues and avoids conflicts.

 

He said Muslim countries especially at the platform of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have the support from the European Union, African Union and Arab League regarding the improvement of international laws to stop the events of disgracing of any religion.

 

He said Pakistan wants that there should be some strict laws made by the international organizations like United Nations to face the challenges like hatred on the basis of religion. He said President Zardari will highlight the need to amend the laws so that no one can play with the religious feelings of any religion.

 

Ambassador Masood said participation of President Zardari in the 67th session of the United States and his address will improve Pakistan's image in the international community as Pakistan has been playing an important role.

 

Commenting on Pak-US relations, Ambassador Masood said, these ties are now going back on track and all the important issues were discussed during the meeting between Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar held in Washington.

 

He said both the foreign ministers reviewed full spectrum of the bilateral relations in all fields and agreed to continue this dialogue process in future.

 

Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari was given warm welcome when he arrived here on Sunday evening to attend the General Assembly Session.

 

Besides the US President Barack Obama, leaders from the member states of United Nation will be attending the General Assembly session which will start with the address of President Obama.
