BERLIN: The German chancellor is due to meet the heads of the European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund in the coming days, her spokesman said Monday, amid a debate over the next steps in shoring up Spain and Greece.
Angela Merkel will host ECB president Mario Draghi for talks at the chancellery on Tuesday, followed by discussions "in confidence" with Christine Lagarde on Wednesday afternoon, Steffen Seibert told reporters.
No press conference has been scheduled after either meeting, he told a regular government news conference.
It is at least the second time that Draghi, who is also attending an event organised by the BDI Federation of German Industry in Berlin on Tuesday, has met Merkel at her offices in several months.
"They will meet again tomorrow to continue this exchange of views," Seibert said.
