NEW YORK: Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has taken ill after arriving in New York and cancelled a luncheon speech appearance on Monday, a government spokesman said.
Gillard was scheduled to deliver a speech on the Australian economy to a luncheon co-sponsored by the Asia Society and the Economic Club of New York.
"We don't know the nature of the illness but she is unable to attend today," the spokesman told Reuters.
Foreign Minister Bob Carr, also in New York for the annual United Nations General Assembly meeting, was asked to step in and deliver Gillard's prepared remarks.
