KARACHI: Giving a stern warning with a sit-in, firefighters have demanded of the city government for an immediate payment of their Fire Risk Allowance (FRA) up till April 2.
This was announced by Syed Zulfiqar Shah, central leader of registered Sajan Union (CBA) KMC, while addressing a gathering of firefighters.
Shah held the city government responsible for the turbulences experienced by firefighters in the last year and a half, in matters relating to the disbursement of the FRA and said that firefighters would stage a sit-in in front of the Civic Centre if their demands are not before the given deadline.
He said a sour relation between incompetent and inexperienced officials of the fire brigade and finance department is the cause for the non-payment of the FRA.
Furthermore, he said the tension among both departments have led to such a situation that for the last three years, the employees are deprived of their right of new uniforms besides promotions on seniority cum fitness basis.
Thus, owing to the prevalent circumstances, firefighters will have to take to the roads for their rights irrespective of political affiliations, ethnicities, caste, colour and creed, asserted Shah and added that if the authorities do not pay heed to their rightful demands then the city government’s administration would be responsible for the situation.
