KARACHI: India has deployed more than 1,000 police officials for the security of the visiting Pakistan cricket team, which is in the neighbouring country for the remaining of the World Cup matches to be held there.Aaj TV reported on Saturday.
The Pakistan cricket team arrived in Chandigarh amidst high security cover to play their 2011 World Cup semifinal match against India on March 30 in Mohali.
India has promised ‘state-level’ security for the Pakistan team in response to threats from terrorists that they would try to target the players during the tournament.
The chief of the right-wing Hindu group Shive Sena said last month that it would decide if Pakistan should be allowed to play in the final in Mumbai on April 2.
It may be mentioned that Pakistan had sent a formal request earlier this week to New Delhi through its High Commission for special security for the visiting cricket team.
