business 400VIENNA: Austria's economy contracted 0.1 percent in the third quarter after growing just 0.1 percent in the previous three-month period, official data showed Thursday.

For the first quarter, the growth estimate was meanwhile revised down to 0.3 percent from 0.5 percent, the official WIFO economic institute said.

On a year-on-year basis, gross domestic product in the eurozone member was unchanged compared to the third quarter of 2011, having grown 0.1 percent in the second quarter.

Quarter-on-quarter consumer spending was flat in the third quarter, as it has been all year, while concerns about the economic outlook led to a 0.9-percent drop in investment. Exports grew 0.9 percent while imports rose 1.2 percent.
