KARACHI: The Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Police Karachi announced Thursday that the mourning procession routes and alternate traffic arrangements during Ashura days in the city will be as under.
On 8th Muharram 1434 A.H i.e. 23-11-2012 at 01:30 p.m. a Shia procession will start from Nishter Park, via Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Father Jaminis Road, Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khurasan M.A. Jinnah Road, Mainsfield Street Preedy Street , Again M.A. Jinnah Road (right turn Baba-e-Urdu Road) Baba-e-Urdu Road, Crossing of Chand Bibi Road, Nishter Road, bara Imam, Altaf Hussain Road (old Napier Road) M.A. Jinnah Road, Boulton Market, Bombay Bazar, Nawab Mahabat Khanjee road and it will terminate at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah.
On 9th Muharram 1434 A.H. i.e. 24-11-2012 at 09:00 a.m. a Shia Procession will be taken out from Markazi Imambargah Liaquatabad. This procession will first go to Martin road, Imambargah and thereafter it will come to Nishter park where majlis will be held. At about 1200 noon the procession will be taken out from Nishter Park for Iranian Hussainian Imambargah, Kharadar via Nishter Park, Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Father Jaminis Road, Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khurasan M.A. Jinnah Road, Mainsfield Street Preedy Street , Again M.A. Jinnah Road Boulton Market, Bombay Bazar, Kharadar Nawab Mahabat Khanjee road to Hussainian Iranian Imambargah.
On 10th Muharram 1434 A.H. i.e. 25-11-212, a large majlis of Shia will be held at Nishter park from 07:30 a.m. to 0900 a.m. and after majlis a procession will start and proceed via route of 9th Muharram’s procession.
As soon as the procession will start from Nishter park all vehicular Traffic coming from city side will be diverted to Soldier bazaar road from the junction of M.A. Jinnah road/ Dr. Dawood Pota Road.
All the traffic on Soldier Bazar Road from its junction with Dr. Dawood Pota Road up to its junction with Khan Bahadur Naqi Muhammad Khan road shall flow one way.
All buses. minibuses and Trucks etc. coming from Nazimabad side will be diverted onto Nishter Road towards Zoological garden to reach their destinations.
All Buses, Minibuses and Trucks etc. coming from Liaquatabad side will be diverted onto Martin road towards Jail side. These vehicles shall, however, be permitted to proceed upto Jail and shall then proceed via Jamshed Road, Dada Bhoy Noorji road, Kashmir Road, Shahra-e-Quaideen, Shahra-e-Faisal upto Gora Qabrustistan and then via Mubarak Shaheed Road, Iqbal Shaheed Road, Lucky Star , Sarwar Shaheed Road, Dr. Dawoodpota Road, Preedy Street to their normal route.. when the head of the procession reaches at the junction of M.A. Jinnah road / Mansfiled Street these vehicles shall proceed straight for 602 EME workshop, Mubarak Shaheed Road, Iqbal Shaheed Road, Lucky Star , Sarwar Shaheed Road, Fatima Jinnah Road, Moulanba Wafai Road (Old Stratchen Road) Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road, M.A. Jinnah Road till the situation permits when these vehicles shall be diverted onto I.I. Chundrigar Road from the junction of Court Road / M.R. Kiyani Road.
All Buses, Minibuses approaching city from Stadium Road side shall proceed via New M.A. Jinnah Road.
These vehicles shall be diverted at Dada Bhoy Noorji Road towards Kashmir Road from its junction with New M.A. Jinnah Road/ Link Road behind Mazar Quaid-e-Azam.
All Trucks, Buses, Minibuses approaching from Superhighway shall be diverted from Al-Azam Square towards Chowrangi No. 2 Nazimabad and shall proceed along Estate Avenue Road, Sher Shah to Maripur Road. For return journey these vehicles shall adopt the same route.
All Buses. Minibuses and Trucks approaching from National Highway side shall proceed via Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hassan Square , Liaquatbad No. 10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2, Habib Bank, Manghopir Road, Estate Avenue Road, Sher Shah, Maripur Road. For return journey these vehicles shall also adopt the same route.
All kind of traffic shall not be permitted to proceed towards the route of the procession form Guru Mandir (Roundabout). These vehicles shall be diverted onto Bahadur Yar jang Road and again into Khan Bahadur Naqi Muhammad Khan Road. Under no circumstances these vehicles shall be permitted to proceed along Soldier Bazar road from the junction of Khan Bahadur Naqi Muhammad Khan Road/ Bahadur yar Jang Road.
All kind of traffic coming from Quaid-e-Azam Mazar side along M.A. Jinnah Road will be diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jang Road . No vehicular traffic will be permitted to proceed towards Old Exhibition under any circumstances.
All vehicular traffic approaching Old Exhibition via Shahra-e-Quaideen (except those arriving for participating in the procession having stickers pasted on their wind screens issued form Deputy Inspector General of Police, Traffic, Karachi) shall not be allowed to proceed from the roundabout of Society Office Roundabout behind Mazar-e-Quaid. No Bus / Minibus/ Truck will be permitted to proceed beyond this roundabout towards Old Exhibition.
All Traffic going towards Saddar and other colonies will not be permitted to proceed towards Empress market from the junction of (1) Preedy Street/ Sarmad Road (2) Preedy Street / M.A. Jinnah Road (3) Shahra-e-Liaquat / Court Road and (4) Shahrae-e-Liaquat / Muhammad Bin Qasim Road when the head of the procession reaches near the crossing of M.A. Jinnah road/ Mansfield street.
Similarly all vehicular traffic proceeding towards Saddar via M.A. Jinnah Road side shall not be permitted to proceed from its junction with Preedy Street and Agha Khan Road.
All Traffic coming Kemari side will be terminated at Ghass Bunder Railway Quarters and as soon as the head of the procession (Sunni Procession) reaches at the junction of M.A. Jinnah Road/ Donnelly Road, these vehicles shall ply in shuttle service between Kemari to Railway Quarter, Ghass Bunder and M.A. Jinnah Road. All buses coming from west wharf side , and Maripur road side will terminate at the junction of Aga Khan Road/ Edulje Dinshaw Road. The Traffic from West Wharf and Maripur Road, sides will however, be permitted to proceed via Aga Khan Road/ G Allan Road, till the situation permits.
All traffic coming and bound from Kemari and Maripur Road from the side of M.T. Khan Road will travel via Jinnah Bridge till the time head of the procession reaches at the junction of M.A. Jinnah Road/ Donnelly Road and thereafter all the Traffic will be suspended from the junction of M.T. Khan Road/ Jinnah bridge.
In the Night of 9th / 10th Muharram – 1434 A.H. i.e. 25-11-2012 Tazia Procession will be carried out throughout the city. The following Traffic arrangement will be made. All Buses approaching Saddar from Jamshed Road side will proceed straight onto M.A. Jinnah Road and will not be permitted to come on Mansfield Street after 10:00 a.m. Similarly, buses coming from City side on Shahra-e-Liaquat bound for the Colonies via Empress market will be diverted onto Muhammad Bin Qasim road / M.A. Jinnah Road the buses bound to Malir and Shahra-e-Faisal will be diverted onto Court Road, Moulana Wafai Road (Old Stratchen Road ) A.H. Road, M.W. Road to Shahra-e-Faisal.
Al Buses from Korangi side bound from Saddar will be diverted back from the junction of Mansfield Street/ Rafiqui Shaheed Road Sarwar Shaheed Road Lucky Star.
Area bound by Preedy Street , M.A. Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street and Shahra-e-Iraq will be closed to all vehicles by 2000 hours or earlier if needed. The residents of the area wil however be permitted to reach their residences.
All buses bound for M.W. Tower from Lea market other colony will use Aga Khan Road, Dalumal Chela Ram Road, Mir Mohd Balouch Road and Shidi Village Road.
The stretch of the road between the junction of Nawab Mohabat Khanji Road, Shidi Village Road, Aga Khan Road , Dalumel Chela Ram Road will be out of bound to all public conveyance Trucks, Buses, Minibuses and Motorcycles , Rickshaws etc.
No vehicle shall be permitted to park along the route of the procession.
