KARACHI: Like every year this New Year will be celebrated in Pakistan with fervor across a multitude of culturally, ethnically and religiously diverse communities.
Following the global trend of observing New Year’s Day, many Pakistanis welcome January 1 with celebrations, festivities and prayers.
Depending on ethnic, cultural, social and religious grounds, people celebrate New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve according to their respective beliefs and value systems. Celebrations range from special prayers and religious congregations to other events.
People visit their loved ones, exchange gifts and New Year resolutions are also the order of the day.
Both government and non-government organizations arrange many functions for the New Year.
Fireworks and pyrotechnic shows also add to the colour and festivities on New Year’s Day.
Television and radio stations air specially prepared programs, while newspapers and magazines publish articles covering New Year celebrations all over the world.
Strict security arrangements have been set in place to avoid any untoward incident. Security agencies have requested the public to maintain law and order and refrain from any unlawful activity.
