KARACHI: In the case of misappropriation of Intelligence Bureau's (IB) funds by Pakistan People's Party (PPP) governments for political purposes in 1988-1990 and 2008-09 the Supreme Court of Pakistan found the response filed by Director General Intelligence Bureau Akhtar Hussain Gorchani as unsatisfactory.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, directed the IB DG to produce details of the bureau’s secret funds, the media reported on Wednesday.
During the hearing, the bench stated that it would summon former IB DG Tariq Lodhi if Gorchani could not provide the necessary details.
Quoting Lodhi, the bench further stated that the funds had been withdrawn from the bureau's account, adding that the current DG's response on the matter was unsatisfactory.
In addition, the apex court directed the treasury secretary to submit a reply along with the relevant records.
The hearing has been adjourned till January 8, while the bench has directed Gorchani to file his response again.
