ISLAMABAD: With the cold wave intensifying, the purchase for heating appliances has gone up in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi this winter season, despite worst gas shortage.
A survey conducted by APP found that the demand for traditional heaters, geysers and other such appliances has nearly doubled this year.
The shopkeepers told that the change in weather compelled the consumers to purchase these products despite worst gas shortage and countrywide power outage.
But sale and purchase of heaters and geysers are still on rise and even unaffordable prices could not stop them from purchasing.
There is a vast range of variety of winter items including locally manufactured heaters, geysers and cooking range which are not only expensive but also durable as compare to the products imported from China which are available in abundance but on very cheap rates, shopkeeper said.
However, an average quality gas heater is available from Rs5,000 to 8,000, while an average quality geyser price start from Rs9,000 to 11,000 while prices of branded geysers and manufactured by reputed companies start from Rs16,000 to 25,000 this season, which are higher about 10 to 20 percent as compare to previous year.
On the other hand, doctors have advised people to not to sleep with heaters on in the living rooms or bedrooms. They said people should allow some air passage in the room where heater is kept to avoid suffocation.
