Scientists started studying data from the day Italy's vaccination campaign began, on Dec. 27 2020, until May 3 2021.
As of Saturday morning, some 8.3 million Italians, or 14% of the population, were completely vaccinated, while around 10 million people had received a first jab.
Draghi said the European Union had agreed at a summit this week to widen the scope for blocking exports of vaccines following the slow arrival of promised doses. He himself said he hoped to receive an AstraZeneca jab next week.
The EU's regulator has so far approved four jabs, but only the versions made in the West, meaning drugs such as Covishield have to be approved separately.
"The WHO Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety is carefully assessing the latest available safety data," the UN health agency said in a statement.
