"We finally last Friday at the G20 meeting got a green (light) to work on a new SDR allocation," Kristalina Georgieva said during the IMF's African Fiscal Forum, broadcast online.

She called for continued, targeted fiscal support by G20 governments to support economies, and said central banks should maintain accommodative monetary and financial policies to support flow of credit to households, and firms.
She said in the 27-nation EU, countries that are traditional tourist destinations, such as Spain, Greece, and Italy, contracted more than 9% in 2020 compared to an average contraction of 6.4% across the bloc.
According to IMF forecasts, by the end of 2022, per capita income for central and eastern Europe would be 3.8% below pre-crisis projections, compared with a shortfall of just 1.3% for advanced EU economies.
"The pandemic's resurgence towards the end of the year threatens to thwart an uneven recovery and add to the steep social and human costs," the IMF's economists said in a blog post.
"What we're urging in Latin America is, please concentrate on the reforms that would bring more vibrancy to growth," she said.
Georgieva told reporters she had a “very constructive” phone call recently with Argentine President Alberto Fernandez but said it was premature to disclose details of a potential program.
