Islamabad High Court on Thursday dismissed federation's application filed to quash First Information Report (FIR) registered against sitting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and 10 others over non-pursuance. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Threek (PAT) had filed an application before Additional District and Sessions Judge Islamabad under Section 22-A of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to register an FIR against Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Chaudhry Nisar, Khawaja Asif, Khawaja Saad Rafique, IG Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, IG Railways and three others over the incidents of August 30 that led to the deaths of three PTI and PAT workers during a sit-in at Islamabad.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge accepted the application and issued directives to Secretariat police station to register the case after which the federal government invoked the IHC jurisdiction to quash the FIR. Appearing before the IHC's single-member bench of Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui on Thursday, Advocate General Islamabad Mian Abdul Rauf submitted that federation intended to withdraw the application. However, Justice Siddiqui plainely said that application in the current matter was filed by the Additional Attorney General for Pakistan so he should plead the case. Mian Rauaf informed the court that Additional Attorney General was busy in Supreme Court; to which the IHC granted some time for his appearance.
