Minister for Tourism Maulana Atta ur Rahman slammed foreign media for disrupting flow of tourists to Pakistan from other countries. 'This is malicious propaganda against Pakistan and Islam that is taking serious toll on our spectacular tourism industry,' Maulana told APP on Sunday.
The minister said that except for some spots the rest of the country was entirely safe and recommended to travel for all tourists including foreigners. Maulana said western media was exaggerating tiny issues and misleading the world opinion, especially of potential tourists about Pakistan. 'A single incident is portrayed and manipulated by western in such a ways as if the whole of Pakistan is in the grip of severe security situation,' the minister said. He said Pakistan was as safe as ever, and there wasn't any security threats to tourists at all.
The minister said that the situation in militancy-hit Swat Valley was improving, hoping tourism would gain momentum in this enchanting region and life fully would resume to normal.
Ministry of Tourism is exploring new tourists sites and up-grading the existing one to elevate the status of Pakistan in this multi billion trade the world over.
Maulana opined tourism industry alone could take on all economic woes of the country provided it got proper policies and strategy. The government, he said, was in the process of chalking out new policy on tourism to replace the one framed 20 years ago. 'The old policy devised in 1990 has fallen terribly short to meet the growing needs of tourism sector,' he said. Maulana said a number of projects were afoot to promote industry of the country. He, however, urged national media to counter western media propaganda against Islam and Pakistan by projecting scenic sits of the country.
