Students actively participate in monsoon tree plantation drive

Keeping with the tradition of past years, students planted trees at their colleges showing commitment to make Islamabad more green and environment friendly. Different colleges including Islamabad Model Colleges for Boys (IMCB), G-6/3, IMCB F-7/3, ICG F-6/2, IMCB G-10/4 and IMCB F-8/4 participated in the tree plantation activities.
Director Administration, Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) Chaudhry Sadiq told APP that monsoon tree plantation is a regular feature of the federal colleges.
Prior to plantation activity in the colleges, students were briefed about the significance of native trees and how to plant them and take care of them.
Students have the energy and zeal to make any campaign a success and the countrywide plantation campaign is an occasion to bring them closer to nature and create long lasting bonds with greenery and trees.
The heads of the schools and colleges were directed by FDE to initiate plantation campaigns in their respective institutes. Monsoon campaign is part of the activities planned in the annual chart of the federal directorate, Sadiq said.
Such campaigns are vital to raise awareness among the students about the importance of environment and forests and to plant more trees and give them proper care to make environment cleaner and greener, he opined. Trees are natural resource that help control increasing environmental pollution. It is national and religious duty to grow more trees and protect existing forests. Trees are lifeline of earth and absorb carbon dioxide and remove pollutants. Principal, Islamabad College for Girls (ICG) F-6/2 Shaista Peerzada said this time fruit trees were planted in the college backyard. Apricot, pomegranate, grape and olive trees planted in the college will not only provide fruit and greenery but also shade, she said.
The backyard of the college has been turned into an orchard filled with fruit trees of various varieties planted over the years. The fruit trees of olive and mango which were planted three years ago have started giving fruits now.
