Jail Chowrangi flyover is yet to be completed as the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) is facing shortage of funds, Executive District Officer Works and Services Department Eng A Rasheed Mughal told Business Recorder on Wednesday.
He said it was decided that the cost of the project was to be borne equally by the CDGK and Sindh government. He further said that Sindh government has already paid its share of the total cost.
EDO Rasheed Mughal said that the department is unable to bear the decided 50 percent cost of the project due to scarcity of funds and it has requested the provincial government to provide funds for completion of the project. Mughal said that the CDGK is facing multiple problems and with the current funds it is hardly able to pay the salaries of its staff.
The foundation stone of Jail Chowrangi flyover was laid on March 19, 2009 by the former City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal. The project was inaugurated on August 13, 2009 by Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat ul Ebad and former City Nazim. Later the flyover was opened for one-way traffic. The estimated cost of the project was Rs 951.79 million.
Jail Chowrangi Flyover is a part of Signal-Free Corridor III project. The length of the flyover is 212 meters while the length of ramp towards Shaheed-e-Millat Road is 192 meters and ramp towards Kashmir Road is 152 meters in length. Down ramp from PIB Colony is 248 meters in length and down ramp length from University Road is 200 meters.
